What Is This Outline For?

The purpose of this outline to organize your thoughts and make the icon design communication process easier. I reccomend printing and filling this outline. A printable version is available here

  1. Determine Icon's Use
    Made for software applications? Or for the web?
  2. List Number Of Icons
    How many?
  3. List What These Icons Should Represent
    What are the actions these icons represent? Opening? Closing? Exiting? Refreshing?
  4. Determine Iconic Style
    Will these icons appear pixelated, vector, realistic, cute or maybe illustrative? Perhaps a reasonable combination? Look at icon designs on the web, in software applications, or in our gallery and have an idea of what appeals to you.
  5. Determine Icon Color Theme
    Be aware of a specific accent color that should tie your icons together within the set. Accent colors are the various main colors that subtly reveals itself in all icons in order to bring them together. It gives the appearance of a "set" rather than a mismatched set.
